Cilantro is from the parsley family but has an entirely different taste so we try not to use the two terms together much. Two terms that can be used together are corainder and cilantro. Actually the leaves from the corainder herb plant are called cilantro. The corainder plant that develop more slowly produce the leaves we harvest as cilantro. The plants that are allowed to develop longer have their seeds used as corainder seeds.

Cilantro is very popular in Mexico, Asia, and Italy as a garnish for delicious salsa, sauces for chicken and pork, and other great cuisines. Cilantro is usually added to recipes at the end to preserve its flavor.

Below is our favorite cilantro recipe!

 

Ingredients: 4 pork chops, trimmed of excess fat Salt and pepper, to taste 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 bunch fresh cilantro, coarsely chopped and divided 1/2 red onion, chopped Salt and pepper to taste 2 teaspoons ground cumin, divided 2 teaspoons chili powder, divided 2 medium tomatoes, coarsely chopped

Directions:
Heat vegetable oil in large non-stick skillet. Rub pork chops with salt and pepper. Place on hot skillet. Sear each side 2-3 minutes. Meanwhile, place half of the chopped cilantro, red onions, half the cumin, half the chili powder, and salt and pepper in bottom of crockpot. Place seared pork chops on top. Place chopped tomatoes, remaining cilantro, remaining cumin, remaining chili powder, and salt and pepper on top of pork chops. Cook on HIGH for 3-4 hours. Serve with Spanish flavored rice and steamed broccoli. Have A Spicy Day!

It is not difficult to spot overweight people these days.  There is an alarming increase in the number of obese children as well.  regardless of where people live, their diet, etc., weight can pile on very quickly and a need for healthy weight loss is certainly needed.  If you are in this category, there is a better than strong chance that you can rid the fat for a healthier lifestyle.  Health weight loss is important, however.  Just remember, though the course to better health is long and arduous, it will be a lot less expensive and much easier on you then say diabetes.

Your first course of action is certainly to consult your physician and a dietician before pursuing any diet.  With that said, your best results will come from a natural weight loss program.  Allowing your body to adapt to a healthier diet than simply taking some supplements.  The draw-back to a natural weight loss program is typically the length.  It does take more time, preparation and focus, but maybe that is what we all need.

Surgeries, popping pills, fat loss drink shakes nor surgery are typically not part of a healthy weight loss program.  Instead, this type of program focuses on natural, holistic approaches, including sensible diet plans, exercise, etc.  This is not to day that quick fat loss cannot be achieved, but it should not be expected.  Sensible eating, again, is the key, which includes increasing your intake of healthier foods, such as vegetables and fruits.  While this is not a new approach, it is usually overlooked.

We always hear about high cholesterol, but how do we know what to do about it (besides eating Cheerios, which we know is probably a sure-fire answer)? When do we even know we need to do something about it, and why should we want lower cholesterol in the first place?

High cholesterol puts you at higher risk for strokes and heart attacks, because cholesterol can build up in the arteries and clog them. If your cholesterol is above 240, it’s considered high enough to be a risk. Anything below 200 is probably fairly safe. You should also be aware that high-lipid cholesterol is actually good for you, because it helps to remove low-lipid cholesterols (which are mostly fatty and increase your risk of heart disease significantly) out of your system.
That said, there are four big things that help to lower cholesterol. You can choose to work on any or all of these things, but if you are at risks, don’t get overwhelmed and do nothing. It’s a process, but it’s one that will be helpful.

1. Exercise
Exercise is important because it helps the body to produce good cholesterol and get rid of bad cholesterol. Healthy diet alone lowers your cholesterol, but limiting fats significantly will also lower the good cholesterol in your body. By lowering your fat intake and exercising, you can remain at an optimal level of cholesterol for both kinds.

2. Diet
To keep your cholesterol low, you should limit your fat intake so that isn’t more than 25-35% of your total diet. That may sound like a lot, but the other caveat is that it mostly be good fats – mono- and polyunsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids. These are the kinds of fats found in vegetables and fish rather than the fats found in eggs, meats and dairy. By limiting your intake of fats in general and focusing on good fats rather than saturated and trans fats, you can lower your cholesterol significantly.

3.Weight Loss
Being overweight tends to give you a higher level of bad cholesterol, so losing weight will help you to lower your high cholesterol (especially if you lose the weight by exercising and eating healthy foods.

4.Medications
Though cholesterol-lowering medications aren’t necessary for everyone, for people who are unable to lower their cholesterol through healthy living, they can be a big help. It should not be used as a substitute for healthy living, however, and it may not be as effective if you aren’t also limiting your intake of unsaturated fats and exercising.

Keeping your cholesterol low decreases your risk for stroke and heart disease, and keeping it low will help you to create healthy habits the will improve your quality of life anyway. Perhaps we should all pretend we have high cholesterol even when we don’t so that we’ll eat and exercise ourselves to a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy weight loss…what is it?  Would you be surprised if I told you that healthy weight loss is a method of losing weight without jeopardizing your health.  I know, that sounds ridiculous, but it is fact.  We have all heard the FDA warnings and lawsuits surrounding diet pills and such, not to mention starvation diets.  Choosing the right diet plan is critical.

There are thousands of weight loss-related products on the market; the industry is in the billions.  It is no surprise to learn then the facts about the weight loss industry, such as 55% of people living in the United States are overweight, with 23% considered obese.  With health insurance on the rise and health status becoming more than simply a social issue, many are panicked to find a fast weight loss answer.  Unfortunately, this approach does not constitute a healthy weight loss program.

Fresh juice from fruits and vegetables can provide you with the
vitamins and minerals needed to optimize your health.  Adding
fresh juice to your diet will give you increased energy, a
glowing skin, and a strong immune system.

I’ve got you tips and tricks that you’ll find helpful when
juicing fruits and vegetables:

Picking the right juicer.

* When purchasing a juicer, choose one that yields as much
juice as possible.  There are juicers that eject the pulp out of
the machine, thus producing less juice than juicers that keep the
pulp in the strainer basket.

* A good juicer should have no more than 450 watts of power
rating.  More powerful juicers produce more heat which can
destroy the nutrients in fruits and vegetables.  On the other
hand, juicers with very low power specs can break down easily
for trying to work hard to extract the juice.

Picking the right fruits and vegetables.

* Fresh and organic fruits and vegetables are always better
than non-organic ones.  Non-organic produce have been treated
with pesticides and synthetic chemicals which are toxic to
humans.

* If you are unable to purchase organic produce, make sure
that you wash the fruits and vegetables thoroughly in lukewarm,
soapy water.  Non-organic root crops like carrots and rhubarbs
should be peeled

* Buying fruits and vegetables in their peak seasons can cut
costs for your juicing ingredients. Strawberries and
watermelons, for example, cost cheaper during summer.

* Do not juice fruits and vegetables that are too ripe, as
these already contain natural chemicals that can be toxic.

Juicing the Fruits and Vegetables

* Fruits with low water content, like bananas and avocados,
are not suitable for juicing.  These fruits are best prepared
using blenders.

* When juicing leafy vegetables, form them into compact balls
or rolls before inserting them into the juicer feed chute.

* Empty the pulp basket once it’s full.  This is to enhance
the extraction of juice from the fruit or vegetable.

Serving and storing the juice.

* Filter the juice through cheesecloth or coffee/tea filter to
remove foam and remaining pulp.  A note, though: the pulp
increases the flavor and nutritional value of the juice, so
it’s okay to include them when serving the juice.

* Serve the juice immediately after juicing to maximize flavor
and nutrient content.  If you need to store the juice,  put it
inside an air-tight container to prevent the nutrient loss.  To
prevent discoloration during storage, you may add a few
teaspoons of lemon juice.

  Dairy products of food pyramid should be 2-3 servings per day. Size of your service is a cup such as that a large glass of milk is doing so. Always choose low fat or fat-free options if you have the choice, dairy products and read the label sweetened with added sugar. Has a dual title for the yogurt, the sugar famous especially for the low-fat yogurt.

  Fats and sweets should be avoided whenever possible. Eat, but limited – a table spoon of butter per day, or olive oil for frying fish. Whenever possible, sweets as part of their regular food pyramid diet. Ice of the milk must be, for example. Never eat candy itself, try to eat protein if you eat sweets.

It is possible to have a healthy life for sure anywhere …if you take charge of your personal health.  However don’t relay on your doctor to help unless he or she practices alternative health methods.

The average conventional doctor only knows how to treat illnesses and diseases with prescription drugs.  If you have a doctor who practices alternative methods of curing your illnesses or diseases consider your self extremely fortunate.

If a doctor got any education about nutrition in medical school it was so inadequate that they weren’t very qualified to practice that type of healing.

The prescription drug companies started from day one programming medical students that the way to cure illnesses was by prescribing drugs.

This is a true story because they furnish medical students with all kinds of aids in their educational years in medical school.  As small as it might be the various aids they furnish or pens, notebooks, clipboards and other such products they can use in their education years.

Of course these aids do contain names of prescription drug companies printed right on any product they give to medical students.  Many people would agree that OK to give out such gifts.

But wait a minute does that not influence some students to some degree that maybe they should be obligated somewhat to a particular drug company after they graduate?

In my generation we didn’t hear much about cancer, heart attacks, diabetes and other diseases either because the local news didn’t broadcast it or there weren’t that many cases of illnesses like today.

I happened to believe that most people were healthier back then because they took better care of themselves.  There wasn’t the influence of fast food restaurants, junk food or processed food like there is today.

We ate more wholesome foods, many grown in our own gardens then.  We ate more fruits and vegetables and even though we worked harder, stress was not as great as it is today.

We exercised more because many people walked more often because they didn’t have access to a lot of transportation conveniences as today.  Many jobs required more physical exercise than they do today also.

Fifty years ago prescription drugs were not as widely known or used.  Grandma’s remedies solved a lot of illnesses back then with very simple and safer methods, too.

  1. We seemed to solve problems easier than we do now.

And we didn’t run off to the hospital emergency room when we got a pain either.  I’m not sure I even remember a hospital emergency room back then.  We seemed to solve health problem on our ownin the early years.

If we did go to a doctor in my generation he did give us a lot of personal attention.  I said “he” because I don’t ever remember a female doctor in my younger years.

I can remember doctors then that were so concerned about your ailment that they would even make personal calls to your home within a couple of days to see how you were feeling.

If you get a doctor today who gives you that much attention, consider yourself “super lucky” because there aren’t that many of them around like that today.

I appeal to you today to do whatever is necessary to educate yourself about alternate medicine methods, healthy diets that should be part of you regular diet regimen, exercising requirement, stress management and other nutritional requirements.

You will only get this type of education on your own.  Don’t depend on your doctor for all of this kind of information because it is not likely to happen.

You must be totally in charge of your personal health requirement or you could be suffering some major health ailments.  That’s may be a blunt statement but it’s a very true statement.
